El Bethel

In the summer of 2023, Pastor Justin Barker of El Bethel Baptist Church faced a challenge that threatened an essential part of their ministry. The church’s food warmer, a vital tool for their community meal program, was malfunctioning and nearing the end of its serviceable life. Without it, their ability to provide hot meals for those in need—a mission close to their hearts—was in jeopardy.

Seeking a solution, Pastor Barker reached out to Richard Cody, the Executive Director of the Ellis Baptist Association (EBA). He asked if any church might have a used food warmer available for purchase. Richard acknowledged the difficulty of the request but promised to reach out to member churches to explore possibilities.

Despite the slim odds, hope began to rise as one pastor responded, expressing a willingness to contribute financially toward purchasing a new food warmer. Inspired by this initial generosity, another church joined the effort, contributing additional funds. The EBA also tapped into an emergency fund specifically set up to support churches in need. Altogether, the combined efforts of the association and these partner churches raised over $1,700—enough to purchase a brand-new food warmer for El Bethel.

This gift was more than just a piece of equipment; it was a testament to the power of churches working together. El Bethel uses their food warmer to provide hot meals for approximately 200 people during community gatherings held every two to three months. Additionally, they serve about 40 members weekly, fostering fellowship and outreach through the simple yet profound act of sharing a meal.

The church was not in a financial position to replace the food warmer on its own. Yet, through the partnership facilitated by the Ellis Baptist Association and the generosity of two other churches, El Bethel was empowered to continue and even expand its ministry. The association’s role in connecting churches proved pivotal, enabling them to minister to their community in ways they could not have achieved independently.

This story highlights the significance of collaboration and unity among churches. By coming together, they were able to meet a tangible need and, in doing so, extend God’s love to countless individuals. The Ellis Baptist Association exemplifies how partnerships among churches can cultivate kingdom advancement and strengthen ministry efforts.

Pastor Justin Barker and the El Bethel congregation remain deeply grateful, not just for the food warmer but for the reminder that they are not alone in their mission. With the support of fellow churches and the EBA, they continue to serve as a beacon of hope and hospitality in their community.

This inspiring example demonstrates that when churches work together, they can accomplish far more than they ever could on their own—all for the glory of God and the good of His people.
